Templeton

Templeton is a pleasant and unique rural community located 5 miles north of Atascadero on Highway 101.
Founded in 1886 when the southern Pacific Railroad came through the area, Templeton has retained much of its historical character. Many of the old buildings have been restored and are still in use. New buildings are being built, but always with an eye to the past. An elevation of 721 feet above sea level, the climate is mild and smog free.

Businesses currently in Templeton include everything from real estate to tack shops, veterinarians to orthopedic surgeons. Cal Trans, Southern California Gas, Pacific Bell, the California Highway Patrol and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff have located their regional headquarters in Templeton. Templeton is home to Twin Cities Community Hospital, a modern well-equipped general hospital offering a wide range of medical services and state of the art technology. The hospital serves the entire north San Luis Obispo County.

Surrounded by rich agricultural land, the topography ranges from semi-flat to hilly with clusters of oak trees. Heavy production of almonds, cherries, apples, grains and dairy products now exist within the area. The most rapidly increasing product is grapes, with many wineries nestled along the roads that wind throughout the neighboring hills. Both registered and grade horse ranches are another area product on the rise. Team ropings, team pennings, and rodeos, as well as prestigious horse shows are held each year in the area. For more information on Templeton phone (805) 434-1789.
